Happy Groundhog’s Day! The groundhog predicted six more weeks of winter. Those suffering from the cold and snow are not going to be happy to hear this. However, it is not as gloomy as it sounds. Apparently the groundhog is wrong more often than he’s right…so there is still hope for Spring. All this happening here in the US.
In Europe they are having a terrible time with record numbers of deaths due to the cold and snow. Somehow I must have thought that the homeless problem was uniquely American because I was stupidly surprised to learn that most of those dying in Europe are the homeless trying to live on the streets and in abandoned buildings with no heat. It was naive of me to be so shallow…of course there are homeless all over the world! (duh!) Look at Somalia! Sheesh…some days I think my brain has curled up into a little ball inside my head and permanently retired.
On a brighter note (pun intended) , here’s a link to photos of the Light Festival in Ghent, Belgium where they are enjoying their holiday despite the cold.
It’s pretty spectacular. Enjoy!
